The brilliant songsmith Richard Dawson was due to perform at Sage Gateshead with an expanded line up this October but as Coronavirus scuppered that and 2020 took an unprecedented turn, the title of his most recent album 2020, a compelling and contemporary state-of-the- nation study, with themes of anxiety, the nation’s collective mental crisis and a gradual slide into dystopia seemed oddly prophetic.

With his warm, humane, and unifying delivery, we are delighted that Richard has agreed to perform two unique solo shows and a live stream, playing material from his 2020 album as well as his back catalogue. Expect to hear stripped back folk, punk, and lively banter.

Plus special guest Yakka Doon (concourse ticket required)

If you would like more information about attending one of our concerts please see Your Visit and our FAQs.

Join us from the comfort of your own sofa for the live stream of the concert, which will be streamed as a live experience from our iconic Sage One hall.

Plus pre-concert performance by Yakka Doon

As well as the performance in Sage One we will also be offering free music on our Concourse before each show. If you would like to come along please make sure you book a table, where you will be able to sit back, relax and enjoy a drink while you listen.

Please note, there are a limited number of tables available, which must be booked at the same time as your ticket. For your safety, we will be running table service only – all of our usual café and bar areas will be closed.

For this concert, we’re delighted that Yakka Doon will be joining us for the pre-concert performance on our Concourse Stage.

Yakka Doon is the solo project of guitarist and songwriter Claire Welford, inspired by the traditional and not-so-traditional folk songs, and the howling winds, trickling streams and hardy people of the North East.
