If Louise Farrenc’s Symphony No.3 is new to you, then be prepared for a very pleasant surprise. Known as ‘the female Beethoven’, and praised by the likes of Berlioz and Schumann (see what we did there?), she is one of the great composers of the 19^th century, although her music has only been truly rediscovered in recent years. Expect an ardently romantic, strikingly original voice in this stormy symphony. And who can resist some joyful Schumann and Berlioz’s charming, elegant Rêverie et Caprice.
