RJ Thompson returns to the Sage Gateshead in September for his first North East show in over two years. Armed with new material, including recent single Kids, the show will see RJ perform both full band and “acoustic” sets.

Born and raised in the North East, RJ Thompson’s indie-pop sensibilities and love of all things analogue see his artistry break the mould of the stereotypical modern-day singer songwriter. Growing up in a small village in Co. Durham, RJ spent his childhood yearning for the bright lights of a big city, and learning the fundamentals of as many instruments as he could get his hands on. Those early years learning his craft would prove invaluable, eventually leading to his recent success performing in some of the world’s most famous venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, supporting Jools Holland on tour.

This artist feels truly universal. Honest. Vulnerable. Inventive. Relatable. Fiercely independent. Never boring.

RJ has spent the last 6 months co-producing his new music – songs that reference the sounds of his childhood with a stance on modern life and socio-political issues. He has also founded his own independent record label and film production companies, Codename Records and Codename Films. For this artist the two art forms go hand-in-hand. Cinematic songwriting. The soundtrack to the movie of your life.
