Simeon Walker 'Whist' | Live from Sage Gateshead

Recorded as part of our 2021 Summer Studios

Simeon Walker

Leeds-based pianist & composer Simeon Walker has quickly emerged as a leading light in the burgeoning Modern Classical scene, following the release of ‘Mono‘ and ‘Winnow’, his two albums to date.

With musical training & degrees from University of Leeds & Leeds Conservatoire, Simeon has performed & toured across the UK and Europe. He also founded and curates Brudenell Piano Sessions; an intimate and varied concert series highlighting the diverse music being composed and performed on the piano. In a busy, scrolling-fuelled world, Simeon’s calm, introspective piano-based instrumentals invite the listener to find stillness, beauty and meaning as much in the spaces between the notes as the notes themselves, as musical stories are woven with each tender, intimate performance.

‘Whist’ is a gentle, unhurried meditative piece giving space between each stated melodic phrase and harmonic shift, to allow the listener a sense of calm and escape from a busy world, as the piece manoeuvres it’s way towards a deliberately inconclusive ending; becoming silent.

Check out Simeon’s performance of ‘Whist’ which was recorded live from Sage Gateshead as part of our 2021 Summer Studios – a free, week-long residency at Sage Gateshead during August for 20 musicians, producers, artists, rappers and singers of all genres to be able to create new work, develop their practice or prepare for a performance.
