Join singing leader Eleanor Mooney for a free weekly virtual sing. Classes are part of Sage Gateshead’s Silver Programme, for people over the age of 50.

Over the next six weeks Eleanor will bring you great songs to learn and new ways to develop your vocal skills.

Our classes are accessible, fun and suitable for everyone, including beginners. If you are new to singing or have never joined an online group before, there’s no pressure and nobody will be asked to sing solo! Take a look at our handy step by step guide on how to join our online classes.

Sessions will be based around a changing weekly theme. Themes will include Energise, World, Love, Pop Choruses, Summer and Greatest Hits. You’ll be singing songs including Cyndi Lauper’s smash hit True Colours, Gershwin’s classic Summertime, the Scottish folk song Wild Mountain Thyme, a medley of all your favourite disco hits and many more.

Classes take place each week and will run for six weeks. You don’t have to attend every class, just join us when you can. You will need a ticket for each session, so if you’d like to attend the full term, make sure you book a ticket for each week.

When you sign up, we’ll send you instructions on how to join the class along with any other information and materials you might need. You’ll receive this on the day of your class, or the day before.

In preparation for the online choir, we recommend that you wear comfortable clothing, have enough space to stand or be in an upright a chair as possible, bring a drink to stay hydrated and perhaps something to make notes if you might find this helpful.

We hope you enjoy singing together.

If you have any questions about the class or would like to speak to a member of the team please contact learning@sagegateshead.com

Please note, booking will close 2 hours before the start of the class.

The classes are presented by Sage Gateshead’s Silver Programme, a programme of daytime musical activity for people over the age of 50, and Well-Tuned Gateshead, a music programme to reduce loneliness and isolation in Gateshead delivered with Age UK (Gateshead) and Gateshead Older People’s Assembly.

A Future for Live Music in the North East

We know how important singing and playing are and we are making these classes free. We recently launched our three-year Crisis, Recovery and Renaissance fundraising campaign in response to the urgent financial challenge posed by Covid-19. Right now, we are seeing increasing levels of need in our community. Many people are experiencing social isolation, struggling with their mental or physical health, missing out on their musical education, or simply craving the incomparable magic of live music. We want to help and need to raise £3 million but can only do this with your help. If you are able to make a donation of any size to help us continue to ensure everyone has access to music, we would be eternally grateful. Learn more here and make a donation.

We’d like your feedback

Over the last few weeks we’ve been working hard to adapt to new ways of working and finding ways to bring singing and instrumental classes to you that are fun, informal and suitable for everyone. Over the next few weeks we’ll be sending participants a short questionnaire to help us with our future planning. If you can spare some time to complete this, we’d be extremely grateful as it will help us to plan for the future. Look out for this arriving in your inbox!

Photography/Filming

During the term, we may wish to film or photograph part of the class to share on Sage Gateshead’s social media to show others what a great time we’re having and encourage them to join us! All participants will be notified in advance and have the option to be excluded from any filming/photography.
