Part of Jazz

THIS EVENT HAS PASSED

At the forefront of Bristol’s contribution to the pulsing new UK jazz scene come  Run Logan Run, an alchemical fusion of surging, polyrhythmic alt-breakbeats and screaming guttural saxophone. Since forming in 2016 the duo (Andrew Neil Hayes, saxophones and Matt Brown, drums) have earned a reputation for explosive live performances, full of raw power and visceral energy.

2022’s Nature Will Take Care Of You saw RLR team up with vocalist Annie Gardiner (daughter of the late guitarist Ricky Gardiner, who played and collaborated with Iggy Pop and David Bowie) and a 9-piece ensemble including string and brass sections. It’s their most ambitious recording to date – reaching out towards propulsive rock and psychedelic soul, while keeping one foot in the radical jazz-not-jazz of Bristol’s ever fertile improv scene.

For this show they’ll be joined by the wildly inventive Dan Messore (Indigo Kid) on guitar and rising star Beth O’Lenahan (Nulifer Yanya) on bass.

“This is so good, I’m into it, awesome stuff” Tom Ravenscroft (BBC Radio 6 Music)

“Layering up pedal treated hails of notes over polyrhythmic flurries desperately seeking transcendence” Andy Cowan (MOJO Magazine)

“It sounds like the past, present and future all rolled into a five-minute song”Nick Roseblade (Clash Music) 8/10

“…[Along the Forest Bed] sounds like it is pretending to be a found text from an old chapbook of Wiccan conjuring or secret female wisdom…it’s hard to think of recent music that conveys that intimate knowledge in such an ethereal way.” Brian Molton, Wire Magazine
