Sibelius Symphony No.7
Mozart Oboe Concerto
Nielsen Symphony No.1
‘Other composers mix colourful cocktails’ said Jean Sibelius. ‘I offer pure, cool water’ – and his elemental Seventh Symphony seems to draw its strength from nature itself. No false modesty for the young Carl Nielsen: he asked the orchestra to play his explosive First Symphony ‘proudly’! Royal Northern Sinfonia Conductor Laureate Thomas Zehetmair loves both these very different Scandinavian masterpieces, the two poles of a concert that revolves around the wit and energy of Mozart’s Oboe Concerto, played by RNS’ own Steven Hudson. Power, pride and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: a concert to recharge mind and spirit.
