Beethoven Christ on the Mount of Olives
Cast out, and facing a terrible fate, a broken man prays for the strength to endure his destiny. The solitary figure is Christ, but you don’t need to be a believer to see why Beethoven identified with Christ’s vigil on the Mount of Olives, or to respond to the heartfelt emotion – and very human drama – with which he set it to music. A tale of soldiers and angels, God and man, early music specialist Harry Bicket and three outstanding British soloists bring their all to this special pre-Easter performance: visions of timeless spiritual beauty by Bach and Mendelssohn prepare the way.
