What's happening in the music

This evening is bookended by two contrasting works which are among the greatest and most popular piano quintets, one by Dmitri Shostakovich and one by Antonin Dvořák.

American composer Caroline Shaw’s Entr’acte is a beautiful, subtle and enigmatic single movement, first heard at The Glasshouse in its string orchestra version played by Royal Northern Sinfonia.
