This new work by award-winning, Newcastle-based composer Kerrin Tatman is written for choir, solo singers and a chamber ensemble, and features English lyrics by Holy Moly & the Crackers songwriter Rosie Bristow. The secular, narrative piece blends contemporary classical, choral and folk influences and turns the traditional Requiem structure on its head.
Set in a landscape of perpetual winter, where all modern fuel resources have nearly run out, we follow two solo singers – a Mother and her Daughter – on their separate journeys to navigate this harsh terrain. The Daughter leads an army into a deadly battle to capture and harness the last remnants of fuel resource available to mankind. The Mother searches for greener pastures by working with the natural world. Who will succeed?
Requiem for a Fading World is also an experimental fusion of contemporary classical music and graphic novel illustration. Audiences attending this debut performance of the work will be able to follow the visuals of Kris Stewart’s comic book art live whilst listening to the music.

Kerrin is an award-winning composer, multi-instrumentalist and creative producer specialising in inter-disciplinary projects, arts development and visual theatre.
plus Catch The Sparrow
Dutch singer-songwriter Catch The Sparrow moved countries in the middle of a global pandemic to pursue her love for folk and traditional music in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Over the past two years she has built up a repertoire of delicate yet intricate songs that showcase a deep understanding of the traditional material she takes inspiration from.
On her latest EP ‘Winter Flowers’ (released December 2022), a personal exploration of the music and history of Newcastle and the North East, sparse arrangements for piano, harp and cello let her powerful vocals and original songwriting take centre stage.
Over the past year, Catch The Sparrow has been performing extensively throughout the North East. Highlights include opening for folk legend Martin Carthy and being a featured artist at Saltburn Folk Festival two years in a row.
