In Residence: Martha Hill

Presents songs from 'Dracula the Musical'

THIS EVENT HAS PASSED

During the first lockdown, Martha Hill got weirdly obsessed with Dracula, and started writing songs about him, saying “I then decided that, obviously, I should write a musical. I’ve spent the past 10 months as an Artist in Residence at Sage Gateshead, writing a collection of musical theatre songs inspired by Dracula, and learning to score them for multiple instruments. This performance will be a showcase of some of that work! It’s going to be ridiculous, come and watch!

Dressing up as a vampire isn’t compulsory, but is defs recommended.”

For this final project, Martha Hill presents original songs they wrote for ’Dracula the Musical’ which will be performed by 4 singers and a band curated by Martha – including musicians from Royal Northern Sinfonia.

Martha Hill

Martha Hill

Northern musician Martha Hill makes alt-pop that is both hard hitting and catchy as hell.

With their latest EP “Dog Hearted Man” being championed by the likes of Radio 1’s Annie Mac and Jack Saunders, as well as features in CLASH and The Line of Best Fit, it’s no wonder Martha Hill has been awarded the PPL Momentum fund to help them in the creation of their next project.

“Her music is inseparable from it’s place of origin, infused with northern spirit and humour”– CLASH

Gloriously confident, Martha Hill weaves their unique take on pop melodies over a backdrop of guitars, cellos and synths, thriving in reinvention and fusion. An energy of husky vocals and melodic hooks, their introspective storytelling picks apart the mundanity of life with northern spirit and humour.
