Ceitidh Mac: SOUND WEAVE: The Living North

A live performance composed and curated by Ceitidh Mac, with a host of North East musicians.
Have you heard of the original Radio Ballads? They were a series of radio shows that told people’s stories in their own words – weaving together interviews, field recordings and original music. They were radical pieces of work when they were first aired in the 1950’s, telling people’s stories that were often not given airtime.
Inspired by this format, Ceitidh Mac has been interviewing people across the North East, to create a radio ballad called SOUND WEAVE: the living north. It builds a picture of life in the north through music/voices/sounds.
“I really want to make it possible to have a career in music and not have to move away from the region. Ceitidh Mac
A Welsh-born tynesider, Ceitidh Mac is a Newcastle based alt.folk cellist/singer with a progressive twist to her music.

Tahmina Ali
Tahmina Ali is a British Bangladeshi, Newcastle-upon-Tyne based spoken word poet, creative freelancer and young mother. Poetry has been a significant tool in Tahmina’s life, it gave her a voice at a time where she felt voiceless. Now through her workshops Tahmina aims to pass on those very tools to others.
She has performed at various events, poetry nights across the country and selected for the prestigious BBC Words First programme along with presenting her poetry radio show on Fast FM for two years running, hosting her own Open Mic poetry night called Strictly Spoken and she has been awarded the ‘ABC Arts and Culture Award’ for 2018 and 2019. Tahmina uses her poetry as a means to encourage positive change, her writing is generally influenced by identity, culture, social events and life as a young mother.

Whether abstract storytelling or sharing intimate pictures of memories, Mollie’s soul-steeped vocals entwine her intuitive jazzy chords and Jimmy’s fingerstyle which blends dark alternative blues rock with light, bright and explorative flamenco influences.
