Tom Kimber (Mandolin & Americana Band)

Tom is a Newcastle Upon Tyne based multi-instrumentalist and composer, who specialises in the Mandolin and Tenor Banjo.

Originally from Bath, Somerset, he reached the final stages of the BBC Young Folk Awards, before moving to Newcastle in 2011 to study Folk and Traditional Music at Newcastle University. After graduating, he won the prestigious Danny Kyle award at Celtic Connections festival in Glasgow with his band, Pons Aelius. Tom regularly plays at festivals and venues around the country with his two bands; Assembly Lane and Pons Aelius, with whom he has released multiple albums. As a keen composer, Tom draws musical inspiration from Somerset, the North East and various other traditions from the British Isles, America and beyond. He has a passion for sharing his musical experience and in addition to instrumental teaching is a regular tutor at Folkworks Tuesday and the director of Hexham Bluegrass.
