Operatic drama and passion, religious grandiosity and powerful emotion are all hallmarks of one of the most iconic pieces of classical music, Verdi’s Requiem – and this year we invite you to be a part of it.
Marking a return to large-scale music making and in memory of those who have lost their lives to Covid-19, we are seeking experienced adult amateur orchestral players and choral singers from across the North East to join Royal Northern Sinfonia and Chorus of Royal Northern Sinfonia as we put together a massed performance of this incredible piece of music, conducted by our new Principal Conductor, Dinis Sousa, at Sage Gateshead.
Participants will work together over several months, initially online but then moving to live in-person rehearsals, to realise a performance of which the North East can be proud, taking place live in the acoustic splendour of Sage Gateshead’s main hall on 28 November 2021.
If you rehearse and perform regularly with a quality amateur orchestra or choir in the region, are inspired and excited by the idea of realising this project, and want to work alongside the finest musicians in the region, then we want to hear from you.
If you’re interested, you should note that you will be required to commit significant time to preparation and rehearsal. While we are looking for experienced instrumentalists, we are as interested in experience, commitment, and enthusiasm as in paper credentials.
Applications have now closed. Thank you to everyone who has applied – we will be in touch very soon.
