Meet Zoe Ansah

Zoe Ansah has been teaching music in schools and for her local music service for over six years. Before this, she spent a substantial period of time working in the community and is currently a music teacher at a primary school in South East, London. Zoe is thankful to Lambeth Music Service, who informed her of Sage Gateshead’s Certificate for Music Educators qualification.

“I valued meeting other music teachers around the country, learning about great projects and theories and having the time and space to study,” she says. “It definitely improved my knowledge and understanding of inclusive music learning.”

Accredited by Trinity College London, Sage Gateshead’s Certificate for Music Educators (CME) is a Level 4 qualification for Music Leaders working with children and young people and who are committed to developing their inclusive practice.

CME encourages Music Leaders to uncover new skills while consolidating their understanding of the purpose of music education and building reflective practice. Flexible training and assessment develop the participants’ knowledge while fitting around their professional commitments.

Zoe has recently completed the qualification. Since then, her confidence has increased as a leader, and her approach has adapted:

“I am definitely more reflective; I continue to keep a diary since the start of the course,” says Zoe. “Having more awareness of the national level changes to music education was also beneficial.”

“A benefit in participating is considering ways to share what I’ve learned with others,” she says. “I would recommend the course to any music tutor looking to deepen and enhance their practice.”

Modules and resources are created and produced by expert trainers from Sage Gateshead and across the region. Modules include Understanding Group Dynamics, Understanding Children and Young People’s Musical Learning, Safeguarding, Promoting Positive Behaviour and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion. An assessment team guides learning and supports completion of the qualification through one-to-one sessions.
