The Paula Cowley Chair

Sarah joined Royal Northern Sinfonia in 1997. During her 20 years in the orchestra she has seen it go through many changes, from fond memories of the Sinfonia Centre in Jesmond and concerts at City Hall, to the exciting new phase brought about by the appointment of Thomas Zehetmair as Music Director and the move over the river to Sage Gateshead.

Although during her time here Sarah has occasionally worked with other bands, such as the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Opera Northn and The Halle, she has felt very happy and fortunate in her role with RNS and very settled in the North East.

In 2006 she got married, and now lives out in the rural town of Allendale with her husband, Dov, and her three children. It’s a long commute but Sarah has come to love the area and has made lots of friends within it’s growing and thriving community.

Among the many exciting musical experiences of the years, a few stand out in particular: playing Sibelius and Schumann with Thomas Zehetmair; Haydn with Mario Venzago; the recent performance of Brahms’ Piano Concerto No.2 with Lars Vogt, and a very happy year touring the area with a quartet made up of colleagues from the orchestra.
