Jonathan Quaintrell-Evans was born in Wiltshire, England, and attended Wells Cathedral School, studying the horn with Simon de Souza. He went on to take undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Music at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, where he studied with Richard Bissill, David Pyatt, Christopher Parkes, Jonathan Lipton, Jeffrey Bryant, Alec Frank-Gemmill, and Roger Montgomery. Graduating with first class honours and a distinction respectively, he was also awarded the Sheriff’s Prize for outstanding achievement.

As a freelancer, Jonathan has worked regularly with the London Symphony Orchestra, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Ballet Sinfonia, the John Wilson Orchestra, and Opera North, and he has also appeared with the Philharmonia Orchestra and the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia. His numerous radio broadcasts have included the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, the Britten Sinfonia, the BBC Concert Orchestra, and Royal Northern Sinfonia, and he appears on recordings from labels including LSO Live, LPO Live, Warner Classics, Chandos and Deutsche Grammophon. As a chamber musician he has performed with London Brass, the LSO Wind Ensemble, and frequently with Royal Northern Sinfonia. Jonathan makes regular appearances with the recently relaunched Sinfonia of London, under the baton of John Wilson.

Jonathan was delighted to be appointed Principal Horn of Royal Northern Sinfonia, joining them permanently at their base at Sage Gateshead, in the autumn of 2018.
