Jane Nossek
Jane Nossek grew up in Harrow and started learning the violin at the age of eight. She was fortunate to start learning with local teacher Marta Eitler, followed by studies at the Junior Department of the Royal College of Music with Jaroslav Vanecek.
Jane was a keen member of her local youth orchestras, and was also in the National Youth Orchestra from 1983-87. Here she had opportunities to work with great conductors on enormous-scale works in venues such as the Royal Albert Hall and the Concertgebouw, Amsterdam.
Jane studied at the Royal Northern College of Music with Lydia Mordkovitch and Maciej Rakowski. It was here that she discovered her love of chamber music, and was lucky enough to form a quartet that enjoyed considerable success over a ten-year span. Both as an individual and as a quartet member, Jane won many prizes and scholarships and performed and broadcast internationally.
A time of frenetic freelancing followed, including regular guest principal work with the Hallé and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic. Jane taught chamber music at the RNCM and travelled widely with Remix Ensemble, Porto. Before joining Northern Sinfonia in 2006, Jane was principal second at the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra for four years.
Her time at RNS has been very rewarding – Gabriel and Jane now have two lovely daughters and enjoy trying to master late Beethoven with the Da Vinci Quartet. Keen to enjoy herself, Jane happily sings and dances on stage whenever possible. She even volunteered to stand in for a concerto performance north of the river!
