Section Leader, 2nd Violin

Eva Aronian

Praised as an artist “balancing emotional weight and technical virtuosity […] conveying the music’s power with a persuasiveness matched by few” (Culture Spot LA), Canadian-Armenian violinist Eva Aronian is in high demand as a chamber musician, orchestral musician, and soloist across the world. Her performances have brought her to Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, Jordan Hall (Boston), the Kimmel Center (Philadelphia), and the Maison Symphonique (Montreal), among others. She is the recipient of top prizes at the Minnesota Orchestra Young Artists Competition, the Orchestre Symphonique de Montreal Competition, and the Canadian Music Competition, and she has performed as a soloist with the Calgary Civic Symphony, Orchestra Philharmonica di Bacau, and the Brookline Symphony Orchestra.

A passionate chamber musician, Eva has collaborated with renowned artists such as Kim Kashkashian, Roger Tapping, Laurence Lesser, Robert McDonald, Anthony Marwood, Lucy Chapman, Hsin-Yun Huang, the Borromeo String Quartet, and the Doric String Quartet, as well as the East Coast Chamber Orchestra (ECCO), the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, and the Australian Chamber Orchestra. She has been featured at festivals and series including the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society, ChamberFest Cleveland, Ottawa Chamberfest, Dilijan Chamber Music Series, and Yellow Barn. She has also been featured on BBC Radio 3.

Additional festival and masterclass appearances include the International Musician’s Seminar Prussia Cove, Mendelssohn on Mull, Four Seasons Chamber Music, Festival Pablo Casals Prades, the Kronberg Academy, and the Perlman Music Program Chamber Workshop. Eva earned her undergraduate and Master’s degrees from the New England Conservatory in 2017 and 2019 respectively, under the tutelage of Donald Weilerstein; she was his teaching assistant from 2017-18. During her time at NEC, she was also an intern for Music for Food, a musician-led initiative founded by Kim Kashkashian to help fight hunger in local communities through chamber music concerts. She received her Artist Diploma with Distinction from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 2021, with David Takeno.

Eva is very grateful to her early teachers, Fiona Carnie and William van der Sloot in Calgary, Canada, where her musical journey began.

She currently plays the c.1700 “Bell” Giovanni Tononi violin on generous loan from the Canada Council for the Arts. She is also grateful to the Sylva Gelber Music Foundation, the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, and the Canadian Centennial Scholarship Fund for supporting her studies.

When not rehearsing, Eva enjoys being in nature, discovering new places to eat, and sight reading chamber music with friends.
