Road closures around Sage Gateshead during Newcastle Finals weekend
Tens of thousands of rugby fans are set to descend on Newcastle & Gateshead this weekend as St. James’ Park plays host to The Challenge Cup final and Heineken Champions Cup final on Friday 10 and Saturday 11 May respectively.
With fan zones on Newcastle Quayside, Blackett Street and around St James’ Park, along with the influx of visitors, a number of temporary road closures have been put in place and we are advising visitors to take this into consideration and leave extra time when traveling to Sage Gateshead this weekend.
- Newcastle Quayside is closed to traffic until 6am on Monday 13 May (Sandhill, Quayside B1600 to junction with Milk Market, Hadrian’s Wall Path, Lombard Street, King Street, Broad Street.)
- The Swing Bridge is closed to traffic heading towards Gateshead. If heading towards Newcastle, no right turn is possible.
- Mill Road Car Park (See Map) will be closed from 8am until 11.59pm on Saturday 11 May.
- Sage Gateshead’s Car Park (See Map) will be open as usual but is expected to be very busy.
