Purpleshirt are a jazz-fusion trio based in Newcastle upon Tyne. The three-piece, who first began at the Sage’s ‘Summer Studios’ in August 2018, combine math-rock mannerisms with a sensibility for traditional jazz. The trio first got a name for themselves by being active around the Newcastle University music scene. Aggressive soundscapes from influences such as Black Peaks and Arcane Roots directly influence their traditional Jazz idiom, combining heavily improvised jazz-fusion with solidified song forms, creating an end product that is both memorable and unique in every performance.
