Trainee Music Leaders wanted!

Take your love for music and set out on the road to being an inspirational Music Leader (while getting paid to do it).

At Sage Gateshead children and young people are at the heart of everything we do, and we’re all about making their musical journey an absolute blast. From beginners to pros, we’re here to unleash the musical maestro within each and every person.

This is where you come in. If you want to learn how to help children and young people reach their musical dreams our Music Leader Traineeship is the perfect opportunity for you.

During your epic adventure as one of our Music Leader Trainees, you’ll be diving headfirst into our Make Music Programme, immersing yourself in a world of rhythmic wonder. You’ll be paid to shadow and observe some brilliant Music Leaders, and reflect on all the musical magic happening. There’ll be time and space to practice and create your own inclusive ideas. When you put them into action you’ll be on the road to your own career as an inspiration Music Leader.

The closing date for applications is Friday 30 June and those shortlisted for audition and interview will be asked to attend Sage Gateshead in person for 30 minutes on Thursday 20 or Friday 21 of July.

The Traineeship programme:

  • Paid traineeship between September 2023 and March 2024;
  • Paid at £11.37 per hour;
  • 91 contracted hours over 7 months of employment for meetings, training, mentor conversations, line management and self-directed time, including;
    – Induction Day: Friday 15 September 2023
    – Training days: to be negotiated on induction
    – Weekly group sessions: Fridays 10am – 12pm
    – Fortnightly meetings with a mentor
  • 150 additional hours available over 7 months of employment for shadowing, observation, reflection, development time and music leadership opportunities;
  • Integration into Sage Gateshead’s Music Leader team;

Who is it for?

  • Emerging music leaders with little or no experience leading musical activity
  • Musicians with a motivation to develop their inclusive and creative practice
