Sage Gateshead

We can’t wait to welcome everyone to Sage Gateshead for a new season of live music and making music starting from September. The safety of our audiences, artists and staff is our top priority and we have measures in place to ensure everyone is safe.

It’s going to take time for us to get everything back up and running again and we’ve concentrated on bringing you great music, keeping you safe and giving you an enjoyable experience. Find out more about our reopening and how we’re keeping you safe here.

We have a range of exciting gigs on sale including John Grant, Billy Bragg, Madeleine Peyroux and Anna Meredith. We’re also delighted to host a free surround sound screening of John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s music film, IMAGINE on 9 September, the 50th anniversary of the album’s release. And we’ll build on our popular live streamed concert series and will stream world-class music for you to enjoy from the comfort of your own home.

Meanwhile, Sage Gateshead’s resident orchestra, Royal Northern Sinfonia will embark on a new era with the appointment of their new leader, violinist Maria Włoszczowska, and newly appointed Principal Conductor Dinis Sousa. From well-known symphonies to new commissions, and whether you love piano music for the soul or pieces to get you dancing, there’s something for everyone to enjoy in Royal Northern Sinfonia’s Sage Classics season. Don’t forget – you can save money with a subscription and we have concessions for under 30s, groups, those out of employment and North East first-timers who have never heard RNS before. Whether you’re curious to see an orchestra for the first time, or you’re a long-time supporter of Royal Northern Sinfonia, the Royal Northern Sinfonia is here for you.

Our Make Music classes and workshops are also back for the autumn term. Our weekly classes offer something for everyone – from guitar and ukulele to pop and choral singing, and fun sessions for early years. We’ll also continue with virtual classes ensuring people can continue to benefit from online music-making. If you can’t wait, our Make Music On Demand packages are available to book on demand so that you can learn at your own pace; get to grips with the ukulele, guitar or fiddle, or start singing.

Finally, the autumn marks the return of our Young Musicians Programme, and the start of new artist residencies at Sage Gateshead. We’ll shortly reveal our four new Artists in Residence for 2021/22 – we can’t wait to find out what they have in store for their residency projects.

We hope to see you at Sage Gateshead in autumn. We are here for you to enjoy unforgettable live music and music-making.

Crisis, Recovery and Renaissance campaign

The Covid-19 crisis presents Sage Gateshead with an ongoing financial challenge. We have largely been closed since March 2020, with 80% of our income affected. This year, our income is set to be half of that in a pre-Covid year, and the financial and operational challenges continue.

We want to rebuild live music in our region and ensure music is part of everybody’s recovery. We can’t do this alone and hope you will help us to make a difference to the future of live music in the North East.

Every ticket top-up, every member signing up, every person donating, every corporate partner and every message of support makes a huge difference.
