Your child’s musical journey starts here! Children of reception class age in school progress through a series of musical games, songs, rhymes and movement activities. Children acquire the musical skills which they will later draw on when they begin to learn to play an instrument. Each session lasts 45 minutes per week.
In the summer term the children are introduced to the violin, viola, cello and bass so that they can choose which instrument they would like to learn to play as part of Foundation Strings.
Due to the impact of the Covid pandemic, Sage Gateshead has had to furlough 95% of its staff. The Creative Learning team (of which YMP is just one part) has been reduced significantly. As a result of this and the need to wait for national guidance around cultural venues, we are unable to produce accurate information for the new academic year in the way we normally would. We will update the website with detailed information at the earliest possible time. In the meantime, more information on the planned schedules and fees for each programme is contained in the link below.
