The Glasshouse

A 10 month artist-led programme to develop an ambitious creative project, with a showcase for the project at The Glasshouse.

The Glasshouse International Centre for Music is excited to be working with two inspiring musicians as Artists In Residence in 2023-24. Hayden Thorpe and Faye MacCalman will work on ambitious projects from autumn 2023, creating new work with live experiences ready to share in 2024.

Hayden and Faye were chosen from an impressive range of applicants from across the region who answered an open call out looking for the most exciting artists in the North.

As an Artist in Residence, they have access to funding, investment in a creative project of their choosing, a residential retreat, rehearsal space, one to one advice and support, and a performance at The Glasshouse at the end of the residency.

In 2022/23 our Artists in Residence created a living picture of life in the North through sound (Ceitidh Mac), an incredible Requiem for a Fading World combining contemporary classical music and graphic art (Kerrin Tatman), an intimate soundworld inspired by experiences of loneliness (Late Girl) and a reconnection with the sound of nature itself (Anna Hughes).

Previous Artists in Residence include alt-pop musician Martha Hill, musician, singer, songwriter, performer, producer, musical director and sound designer Beccy Owen, bass trombonist Hannabiell and rapper/singer-songwriter Sågaboi (2021-22). North East born music producer specialising in dance music Man Power, Newcastle-based electronic musician Me Lost Me, singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, music educator and contemporary dancer Rapasa Nyatrapasa Otieno and electronic artist Joe Snape (2020-21).
