Nicola Mills is originally from Oldham, and studied at The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama before going onto work in opera houses around Europe for 10 years, including for Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Dutch National Opera, The Flemish Opera and Opera Monte Carlo.
Whilst living in Belgium she began singing on the streets and it connected her more with ‘the people’. She started her own initiative called ‘Opera for the People’ which is about connecting with people and bringing joy to others through the power of music. At events, in schools, for the homeless, for the elderly, basically for ‘the people’, in a friendly and down to earth way.
She also started a blog at asopranoasuitcaseandarucksack.com, put on her own show ‘A Soprano and a Suitcase’ in a theatre in New York and also wrote her own tribute to Julie Andrews called ‘A Spoonful of Julie’, which was in venues around the UK. It’s all about following her heart and bringing happiness to others.
