Multi instrumentalist Benjamin Fitzgerald is a contemporary classical composer from the North East of England. His rare and delicate style of composition incorporates an eclectic mix of transcendent strings, surrealism and a plethora of inspirations spanning modern jazz through electronica.
Benjamin uses his music as a means to not only entertain, but also inform his audience through musical narrative, looking to represent issues that are close to his heart and to spur the same reaction with his audience.
Over the past year he has worked closely with charities such as CALM and Dementia UK, using music as a way to bring attention to mental health and social issues. His most recent commission with New Creatives North, Arts council England and BBC arts, titled ‘Mind, matter & perspective’ looked to represent and alleviate the stigma of mental health using first-hand accounts and medical information of PTSD, Schizophrenia and Dementia. Benjamin crafted his compositions to represent the conditions in such a raw and honest form in order to push honest empathy with his listeners and maintains this ethos within all his work.
