The Magic of Music - Rapasa Otieno

Rapasa Otieno

What does music mean to you?
Music is integral to my life. I live and breathe it. It is a means to communicate what cannot be communicated through words and it is a powerful healing force.

What is your favourite music memory?
In my family we had a turntable and I have fond memories of my Mama playing some old tunes from Kenyan and African musicians such as Collela Manze, George Ramogi, M’bilia Bel andRemmy Ongala.

What is your hope for music in the North East in 2021?
I hope that we are able to play live and interact with our local audience and eat food with them as we used to.

What is your favourite Christmas song or carol?
I celebrate Christmas in my own way. It is a time for me to reflect and as such I don’t have a particular favourite Christmas song. But if I am requested I can sing for you “Christmas, Christmas, Everybody Dance. Christmas, Christmas, Everybody Sing. Christmas, Everybody loves”.
