The Magic of Music - Jayne Dent (Me Lost Me)
What does music mean to you?
It’s a way of telling stories, a way of expressing yourself, a way of connecting with the world, an invitation to dance, make, play. It can cement itself in your memory so easily and change your mood in an instant, it’s an incredibly powerful art form but also fun and freeing.
What is your favourite music memory?
In recent memory I think attending a workshop at CAMPFR last year. Just being in that focused space with a group of brilliant musicians from around the world where we were able to share ideas and music has had such a massive impact on me.
What is your hope for music in the North East in 2021?
My hope is that our venues survive and thrive, I’d be so gutted to lose any one of them. Similarly for the musicians, I hope we can make music that demonstrates to people outside the region what an amazing scene we have up here!
What is your favourite Christmas song or carol?
Growing up we always had Maddy Prior and the Carnival Band’s Christmas albums on, so it would have to be their version of any carol but I couldn’t possibly pick a favourite, the second I hear Maddy Prior’s voice, it’s Christmas!
