The Magic of Music - Connie, Young Musicians Programme
What does music mean to you?
Music is such a key part of my life, nothing else has quite the same power to instantly uplift me when I’m feeling low. Whether it’s being able to express my feelings by performing music myself or simply feeling a sense of unbridled joy by turning up the volume on my favourite songs and dancing along, I believe music has the power to inspire so many beautiful feelings.
What is your favourite music memory?
My favourite music memory is one of my proudest moments performing in the Sage string section with The Lake Poets in 2016. The performance was such a thrill and seeing my name on the EP ‘Live at the Sage’ completely overwhelmed me. I still feel incredibly moved listening to the tracks we played on- Marty Longstaff’s song writing is utterly beautiful.
What is your hope for music in the North East in 2021?
I really hope to return to playing with my youth ensembles in 2021. I have met many of my greatest friends through the young musicians programme and in these difficult times I’ve really missed the camaraderie and electric atmosphere of performing as a group of likeminded, passionate musicians.
What is your favourite Christmas song or carol?
Greg Lake’s ‘I Believe in Father Christmas’ has stunning orchestration and poignant lyrics, my mum always requests I play it to her at Christmas so I think that makes it a Christmas song that’s extra special to me.
