The Magic of Music - Christine
What does music mean to you?
I only have to hear Pachelbel’s Canon -the 3rd Brandeburg concerto, Mary Hopkin singing Those were the days, Fingal’s Cave and the Mull of Kintyre and I am immediately transported to particular times, scenes, emotions in my life.
What is your favourite music memory?
Being taken by a boyfriend to the Free Trade Hall to hear The Hallé play the 3rd Brandenburg concerto, to prove that Bach wasn’t boring. What a revelation!
What is your hope for music in the North East in 2021?
Blaydon Races, Keep your feet still, Bobby Shafto, The water of Tyne and more recently music from Sting and Dire Straits – these are embedded in the spirit, history, fabric of the North East. Let’s get back to live music to continue nurturing the North East spirit.
What is your favourite Christmas song or carol?
My favourite carol is In Dulce Jubilo – my first experience of singing in parts in the school choir. I still sing along with King’s College every Christmas.
