There are so many; it is difficult to put them into a brief summary. As well as the large number of concerts I have enjoyed in this wonderful music venue, the main thing that springs to my mind is the opportunity that Sage Gateshead has given me to get much more involved in creating and making music. And during lockdown, one of the things that has kept my brain occupied and helped me to relax has been the time I have spent working at home, and remotely with friends on various small music projects.
My first involvement in making music with Sage Gateshead was to join one of the Folkworks Tuesday evening classes and since then I have attended a number of the Folkworks Adult Summer schools in Durham, where I have been able to meet and work with some of the most talented musicians in UK folk music.
I have also thoroughly enjoyed meeting, making friends and making music with other amateur musicians attending the summer schools. The attached example was recorded a couple of years ago by myself and two friends who met via Folkworks and which would obviously not have been created without the Folkworks programme.
Long may it continue and flourish.
