Adapting our performances and Make Music classes
Can you help us to develop new programmes to reach members of the community who may currently be more isolated due to Covid-19?
Focus on Sage Gateshead’s Silver Programme
Established to create a musical community and support positive mental and physical health in people over the age of fifty through music making, Sage Gateshead’s Silver Programme is the largest of its kind in the country. Since 2005 nearly 10,000 people aged 50 to 90 have joined singing groups, learned instruments, and formed bands.
The Silver Programme is open to anyone whatever their level of experience and offers an incredible range of instruments and styles – spanning voice, percussion, wind, brass, rock, pop, classical, jazz and much more – creating a vibrant, social community of music lovers.
One of our regular participants talks about how the Silver Programme has changed her life:
“Music has helped me rebuild my life from being isolated and having no friends. There are people from all different backgrounds. Everyone comes to the programme through their love of music… I love working together as a group to do the best we can do.”
At a time when social isolation increases loneliness for many people over the age of fifty, Sage Gateshead is creating a new digital programme to connect people with music making and each other, as well as promoting good mental health.
