Folkworks Summer School FAQs

I’ve booked and paid, when will I receive my General info/ Briefing Packs/ Timetables?

These will be sent after enrolment closes (Monday 2nd July). If you haven’t received these by Monday 16th July please contact folkworks.summerschool@sagegateshead.com

Can participants book an extra nights’ accommodation on Sunday 22nd July?

- Yes if you are attending the Adult School. An extra night’s B&B can be reserved for Sunday 22nd July and/or Saturday 28th July if required at a cost of £37.50 per person per night for bed and full English breakfast (£50pp for en-suite). Please contact Event Durham directly on 0191 334 2892 or email event@durham.ac.uk to make an additional night(s) accommodation booking. – No if you are attending Youth or Junior School

Can Parents stay on Friday 28th July or other nights with participants attending the Junior School?

We like Junior School participants to enjoy the freedom (safely managed!) of our Summer Schools without parents, it’s great for your child’s confidence and independence and helps bond the group so we ask if you would like be near then please arrange your own accommodation.

As the Summer Schools are in Durham town centre there are plenty of accommodation options available to you. We recommend contacting Event Durham who handle the bookings for all Durham’s B&B equipped colleges (0191 334 2887 / event@durham.ac.uk)

Have I paid?

To check whether you have paid in full for this year’s Summer School please contact the Sage Gateshead Ticket Office (0191 443 4661) who will have record of all payments you have made.

Do I need to sign a consent form for Youth and Junior?

The consent form is completed with the enrolment information when you book. If you have already enrolled and completed the process correctly you will have filled in and signed/ticked a section detailing parental consent.

If you think you haven’t done this or would like to discuss anything on the form please contact the Folkworks Summer Schools team. Parental consent is required for the Youth Summer School if you are under the age of 18 at the start of the school.

How do I apply for a bursary (Youth and Junior)?

Information about how to apply for a bursary is on the website, if you require a hard copy of the form or need any assistance completing information please contact the Summer Schools team.

Once we have received your completed application we will hold a place for you on the schools. You do not need to complete the online enrolment form or pay until you have been informed of the bursary decision.

The closing date for bursary applications is Monday 21st May 2018, applications will then be reviewed by the bursary panel and you will be informed if you have been successful or unsuccessful. We will keep your place until enrolment closes (Monday 2nd July 2018) so you can book.

Is there Car parking at Adult Summer School?

St Aidan’s College has ample parking on-site and it is free for participants. Parking is allocated on a first come first served basis.

I have a disability are the teaching rooms and accommodation accessible?

Adult – St Aidan’s has disabled parking and accessible teaching spaces.

Youth – Durham School is a very old building and whilst every effort has been made to make the building accessible, there are some steps and stairs. They are therefore restricted in creating a totally accessible building. We will do our best to make sure anyone with a disability who wishes to attend will be catered for so please let us know in advance or if you would like to discuss accessibility contact the team.

Junior – The Chorister School is a Grade 2 listed building with many steps and stairs. They are therefore restricted in creating a totally accessible building. We will do our best to make sure anyone with a disability who wishes to attend will be catered for so please let us know in advance or if you would like to discuss accessibility contact the team.

Your access needs are a priority for us, therefore please let us know if you have any accessibility issues via folkworks.summerschool@sagegateshead.com so that we can ensure you are catered for accordingly. We review the accommodation yearly to keep up with the changing needs of our participants.

Do the Big Tunes and Song need to be learnt before the Summer School?

No, they will be taught during the week of the Summer School but will be sent out in the briefing pack, often people like to get a look at them before the week begins.

How can I get tickets for the Showcase Concerts?

Adult Showcase concert will be the afternoon of Friday 27th July. The concert will be free and un-ticketed, please feel free to invite friends and family members to showcase all you have learned to them in the week.

Youth and Junior Showcase concert will be the evening of Friday 28th July, at Durham School. Ticketing information for this concert will be shared in due course. Please be aware that we limit tickets to ensure every participant who wishes to can have a family member present.
