Sage Gateshead is aware of the damaging effect the event industry can have on the environment, so we are committed to reducing our environmental impact year on year. We aim to meet and exceed statutory requirements in this respect and to be an example of best practice to other organisations.
We have made a commitment to integrate sound environmental values and principles in all our roles and operations. Our programme is driven by a committee of employees ‘The Green Team’ who are dedicated to bringing a variety of environmental innovations and practices to the venue. They are inspired by the opportunity to work with our event organisers and contractors to minimise the environmental impact of each event. Alongside the work which our green team are doing we are also working towards achieving BS8901 within our Conference and Events activity.
Taking the green route is not always easy but ultimately Sage Gateshead sees that we have a responsibility to integrate solid sustainable values, principles and practices in all we do. The British Standard of Sustainability within Event Management (BS8901) allows us to gain feedback from our community, clients, staff and stakeholders and work towards improving the sustainable issues that we all believe are important. The standard is a major step forward in making events in the UK more sustainable and provides a system for managing the overall environmental, economic and social impact of events by setting out requirements for planning and managing a sustainable event.
