Sibelius and the Musical North
‘The North’ stands out for its undulating terrain and strong folk traditions, no matter where in the world, so it’s no wonder so much idiomatic music pours out from these regions. No composer evokes in his music his surroundings like Sibelius – his quintessentially Finnish works wrap the listener in a landscape of vast snow-topped mountains and deep, dark woodland. One of the 20th century’s greatest symphonists, Sibelius’s works have stood the test of time in their ability to engage and inspire generation after generation.
This season, Royal Northern Sinfonia with a host of leading guest artists and orchestras will explore his seven symphonies and violin concerto.
Buy all 8 Sibelius journey concerts as part of a package and get a free CD of symphonies 3 & 6 conducted by Thomas Zehetmair.
