Reclaiming Mozart

Mozart’s music today is too often abandoned to the commercialism of chocolate boxes and ‘Mozart for Babies’ CDs, ignoring the far more complex and dramatic context within which it was written.

While many of his compositions were premiered to the applause of archdukes, kings and emperors, the aspiring composer came to the Austrian capital very much an outsider, driving himself into crippling debts in order to remain on the inside.

This season we explore the many facets of Mozart’s world, from imperial glamour and ostentation, to the darker underbelly of late 18th century Austria.

Buy a package from our Mozart journey and receive a free CD of Imogen Copper performing Mozart piano concertos. CDs will be delivered in September for all qualifying subscribers.
