Sage Summer Studio
Local musicians, singers and artists are invited to Sage Gateshead this Summer, as it opens up its Music Education Centre for a unique series of short residencies.
From 1 August to 10 September Sage Gateshead are offering free short residencies (up to one week) in the venues Music Education Centre for musicians, singers or artists to create new work, develop their practice or prepare for a performance. This is a rare opportunity for creatives to take advantage of the region’s world class facilities and expertise at Sage Gateshead free of charge.
Residencies are creativity led rather than simply rehearsal, for example creating new material and song-writing, trying out new collaborations, performance and recording preparation.
The project was launched last summer and welcomed artists including Newcastle-based singer-songwriter Ditte Elly, alternative rock band A Festival, A Parade and award-winning theatre production company ZENDEH.
Nazli Tabatabai-Khatambakhsh, Artistic Director at ZENDEH said:
“The ZENDEH method is all about experimentation, exploration and touring so when the opportunity arose for us to spend time at Sage Gateshead with our composer and sound designer on our show TRANSIT we made our application and were delighted to be selected – and it was great to be able to return the generosity of Sage Summer Studios by inviting and having in attendance members of Sage Gatesead to feedback before we headed to the Tron Theatre in Glasgow – totally recommend it to other artists and would love to take part in Sage Summer Studios again!”
The summer residencies will culminate in a showcase on 2 September where friends, family and members of the public are invited to hear the end result of the residencies. The day will also provide valuable mentoring opportunities for each artist from the Sage Gateshead team.
Sage Gateshead is one of 34 PRS for Music Foundation Talent Development Partners. Sage Summer Studio forms part of a wider programme of talent development at Sage Gateshead that will provide opportunities for a broad range of musicians working across different music genres.
