Royal Northern Sinfonia live recording project chosen as Classic FM CD of the week
Royal Northern Sinfonia and Music Director Lars Vogt have been busy performing and recording all five of Beethoven’s piano concertos in a special project at Sage Gateshead this season – and Classic FM have helped mark the release of the first CD by choosing it as their album of the week.
Every morning this week at 10.15am, musical host John Suchet will be treating listeners to an extract from the CD, which was recorded live in concert at Sage Gateshead during the 16/17 Classical Season.
Forming part of a live recording project with the Ondine label and co-produced by Deutschland Funk, the recording cycle has gained much acclaim throughout the season, with one regular concert goer stating: “I’ve always been impressed by Royal Northern Sinfonia…but they really seem to be reaching new heights.”
The first CD, which features Beethoven’s Piano Concertos 1 and 5 was released in the UK on 27 April and takes pride of place on Sage Gateshead’s shop shelves, with digital and international release scheduled for 12 May.
The cycle of the five Beethoven Piano Concertos will be completed in the Beethoven Feast concert on Saturday 10 June, an epic restaging of the famous all-Beethoven world premiere concert of 1808 with added dinner interval and a performance of Beethoven’s fourth piano concerto.
Ticket prices for A Beethoven Feast range from £16.13 – £39.78. Audience members also have the additional option of booking for a seven-course meal served during the two extended dinner intervals in the stunning wood-panelled Northern Rock Foundation Hall, right in the heart of Sage Gateshead.
