Change the Record - Contributor Profile with Beth Orton
Beth Orton is one of the most unique and beguiling voices in music today. On Monday 2nd July – 90 years since women were given the right right to vote – Beth Orton will be joining a host of other industry innovators, artists and leaders for a free event designed to move the discussions around gender and music forward.
This event is a FREE afternoon event organised by Manchester based Music Charity Brighter Sound as part of their Both Sides Now programme – an initiative to showcase, inspire and support women in music in the North of England over the next three years.
Beth said of the Both Sides Now programme:
“There needs to be a space consciously created that allows our up and coming producers and engineers, writers and composers, who also happen to be female, a place they can unquestioningly and unapologetically explore passions that might otherwise remain someone else’s domain.”
Beth Orton is joining a programme of contributors at the event including Nabihah Iqbal (Artist, Ninja Tune), Holly Ross (Artist, The Lovely Eggs), Chi Chi Nwanoku OBE (Director, Chineke!), Remi Harris MBE (Music Industry Consultant), Claire Mera-Nelson (Head of Music, Arts Council England), Beverley Whitrick (Strategic Director, Music Venues Trust) and many many more. Whether you’re involved in music as an artist, a parent, currently work in the music industry or aspire to, we want you to join us!
Change the Record is your chance to take positive action around the existing gender imbalance in the music industry, and affect permanent change around the perception, opportunities and profiling of women in music – from the classroom, to the boardroom, to the stage.
