Who We Are/What We Do

The Accessible Learning Strand supports access to music and musical learning opportunities for individuals who have special educational needs and/or disabilities.
We also provide access for participation in employment focused training supported by local partners.

This work can be created by:

  • specific and directed actions (e.g. commissioned sessions)
  • developing partnerships with other organisations (e.g. offering work placements to MENCAP National College Dilston)
  • seeking funding to develop project ideas (e.g. Music Connect currently funded by Newcastle Council Children with Disabilities Team)
  • The Accessible Learning team working in partnership with programmes within Learning and Participation to offer a range of activities as well as appropriate support based upon the needs of the individual participant

Our ethos

  • You’re welcome – musical journeys throughout the organisation with appropriate support determined by the needs and abilities of the individual
  • We will work it out – a dialogue with individuals and/or their key worker/guardian about how we can support them to access our activities and services
  • We will do our best – a commitment to providing high quality creative musical experiences for individuals and groups engaging with Accessible Learning
  • We will learn from what works – we will nurture the passion and commitment of the Accessible Learning team and share their learning throughout the organisation. We will also learn from the participants of Accessible Learning activity and continue to ensure that their needs shape our provision
