Eliot Smith Dance (ESD) brings its new contemporary programme to Sage Gateshead this autumn. The programme promises to take the audience on a spellbinding and powerful journey, brought to life through a signature choreographic style that is fast establishing ESD as one of the most exciting dance companies in the UK.
‘Visually stunning, choreography original and technically so accomplished’ – Resolutions’14
Created in partnership with the some of the industry’s foremost choreographers, dancers and composers, ESD’s new triple bill consists of brand new dance works by the award-winning choreographer Rosie Kay and notable dance-maker Mathieu Geffre. Alongside this, the programme includes a new work created by the company’s Artistic Director, Eliot Smith which will be accompanied by the world premiere of Sacrification, a new composition for trombone ensemble and percussion from American trombonist, band leader, and composer Jason Holcomb. A retrospective and abstract look into the glorification of war and conflict and the sacrifices made by those affected, the piece has been commissioned by ESD in association with The Royal British Legion and will see Holcomb performing live with the ESD company in a stunning collaboration of art forms.
Expect a highly physical and musically-led evening of new dance, showcasing the company as a provocative and exciting group on the cutting edge of contemporary dance in the North East.
‘Until tonight contemporary dance never touched me, genuinely never spoke. Seeing ESD dance tonight was breath taking’ – Andrea McGuigan, Audience Response
