Ring in the New Year at Sage Gateshead’s marvellous party!
Celebrate the turn of the year at the best party in town, with a very special performance from The Divine Comedy, DJs, delicious food and drinks, live music on the concourse ‘til late and a brilliant view of the Quayside midnight celebrations.
The Divine Comedy bring their mix of hook laden melodies and audaciously witty lyrics to Sage Gateshead for an exclusive New Year’s Eve performance.
The band are well known for their hits National Express and Something for the Weekend as well as the sublime beauty of their last single To The Rescue.
Their most recent album Foreverland went straight into the top ten, followed by a UK and European tour which saw rave reviews of shows jam packed with new songs, classic hits and fan favourites.
Frontman Neil Hannon is also well known for writing the much-loved TV themes for Father Ted and The IT Crowd. Never one to be confined by convention, he wrote the music and lyrics for the critically-acclaimed musical Swallows And Amazons and is now working on a stage musical adaptation of Father Ted. A new Divine Comedy album is expected to be released in 2019.
What better way to celebrate New Year’s Eve than with world-class music, superb entertainment and a fantastic view of the Quayside celebrations?
Supporting The Divine Comedy on the Sage One stage are Newcastle-based 5-piece band Shields. With reputation for innovative alt-pop instrumentation and delicate harmonies, they have crafted a reputation for stunning live performances, honed by early tour support slots with the likes of Placebo, Walk The Moon, and boast an impressive list of festivals on their CV, including BBC 6Music, Melt!, Reeperbahn, and Glastonbury.
“A big clomping synth spectacular that’s reminiscent of a sunnier Everything Everything.” – Sunday Times
After the main show, King Bee bring their unstoppable grooves to the concourse stage, playing you into 2019. Boasting an unorthodox line-up which includes sax, flute, trumpet, synthesisers and vibraphone, the original jazzfunk/fusion sounds of this seven-piece Newcastle based band have recently taken on a more edgy electronic and on occasion psychedelic element.
Back by popular demand, the Northern Soul Room returns, featuring Alex Johnson & Giovanni Spatuzzi, and Billy Keen & Gary Williams play a late-night set on the concourse to round off the night.
What’s more, you can have a welcome drink, four-course dinner including coffee & petit fours and a cheese platter before the main event.
So, get your glad rags on and raise a glass at the best spot in town to see in 2019!
