A double bill of two of the finest female blues voices from both sides of the Atlantic.
Jo Harman – Soul, gospel and powerful melodies. British born Harman found success with her debut album, Dirt on My Tongue. The album was supported with a touring schedule that saw her share the stage with Patti Smith, Joan Baez and Sinead O’Connor and racking up more than a half-dozen nominations from the British Blues Awards.
She subsequently teamed up with co-writer Mike Davis to write new songs that took their cues from some of the classic artists including Carole King and Cat Stevens, narrowing her focus to the building blocks of ageless music, from powerful melodies to organic, natural-sounding arrangements.
Her latest album, People We Become, recorded in Nashville and produced by Fred Mollin has a warm sound, full of upright piano, unaffected bursts of electric guitar and the soulful sweep of Harmon’s voice.
Lisa Mills – takes her audiences on a musical, and often humorous, emotional journey with charm and panache that is melodic, raw, unfettered and most importantly, searingly honest: expect blues, country, gospel and soul influences.
By taking all these ingredients and adding the occasional dollop of jazz inflection, Mills serves up her own savoury-sweet mix that goes beyond the expected. Lisa Mills is mighty good!
Lisa Mills: 2pm – 2.50pm
Jo Harman: 3.10pm – 4pm
