Saturday evening presents three exciting emerging artists; Amythyst Kiah, Bossy Love and Anna Meredith. One ticket price allows entry to all three performances.
8pm, Sage Two
From Johnson City Tennessee, Amythyst Kiah describes herself as a Southern Gothic, alt-country blues singer-songwriter. Her influences span decades and diverse styles: combining rhythm and blues and old-time covers alongside startling originals with an angular contemporary twist, she bestrides both spheres with complete authenticity and authority. Channelled through her massively expressive voice, this richly layered repertoire confirms Amythyst’s emergence as a hugely distinctive new artist.
“Amythyst Kiah is going to be famous…the best way to experience her music is in person. I don’t think it’s an understatement to say that Amythyst Kiah will remind you what it is to love live music.” No Depression
9pm, Sage Two
Glasgow based duo, Amandah Wilkinson and ex Dananananaykroyd Baillie Jnr, Bossy Love aren’t your typical RnB/Pop pair and, live, they are a force to be reckoned with. Lauded by critics as ‘one to watch’ after their self released tracks Sweat It Out and Body last year.
The powerful debut single that followed, Want Some (released on Nightwave’s tastemaker label Heka Trax) treated listeners to a dose of ‘tropical R&B’ meets hard hip hop beats, with remixes from the label boss herself and Big Dope P (Ninja Tune/LuckyMe). Securing plays across BBC Radio 1Xtra, Beats 1 and Kiss FM.
“Infectious pop-funk – Prince on a trampoline” The Guardian
“Bossy Love make the kind of R&B that their name promises: Sweet but direct, sexy but firmly in charge” The Fader
10pm, Sage Two
Anna Meredith is a composer, producer and performer of both acoustic and electronic music. Her sound is frequently described as ‘uncategorisable’ and ‘genre-defying’ and straddles the different worlds of contemporary classical, art pop, electronica and experimental rock – or as the Guardian said: “majestic bangers”.
Her music has been performed everywhere from the BBC Last Night of the Proms to Prada & Fendi fashion campaigns, numerous films, installations and documentaries, pop festivals, clubs and classical concert halls worldwide and broadcast on radio.
Her debut album, Varmints received huge critical acclaim including Pitchfork’s coveted Best New Music. Varmints won the 2016 Scottish Album of the Year (SAY Award).
