Hailing from Manchester, acoustic-electronica trio GoGo Penguin are pianist Chris Illingworth, bassist Nick Blacka and drummer Rob Turner. Drawing on influences from Brian Eno and John Cage, to Massive Attack and Aphex Twin they create a brave new sound all their own.
Defined by skittering break-beats, powerful sub-bass, telepathic interplay and a penchant for anthemic melody they create an emotionally rich palate for the listener that has seen them hailed as the most exciting new band to emerge from the UK in years.
Their album V2.0 was named a Mercury Prize album of the year 2014. In 2015 they signed a three album deal with Blue Note Records and this tour will feature material from their debut album Man Made Object.
Squarepusher returns with a brand new project, Shobaleader One. Featuring Squarepusher on bass, Strobe Nazard on keys, Arg Nution on guitar, and Company Laser on drums, Shobaleader One will deliver choice tunes from the Squarepusher catalogue featuring classics from albums like Hard Normal Daddy and Music Is Rotted One Note. This is an experience no Squarepusher devotee or adventurous music fan should miss.
The band release Elektrac on 10 March on Warp Records. The album features the band’s versions of eleven Squarepusher classics.
“A crashing assault….and a danceable trip to the peripherals of electronic music” Resident Advisor
“Shobaleader One, gear shifting virtuosos whose fidegty jazz and fusion-esque bass acrobatics continues the breakneck sonic assault.” London in Stereo
