Our concourse will be full of family friendly activities all day. From free performances from Northern musicians and dance teams, stalls to peruse and free folk instrument taster sessions. For young people there will be craft activities and the opportunity to build your own small ship and join our Small Ships Parade!
10.30am – 8pm: Stalls (Vendors and Come and Try)
Come and try a new instrument! From fiddles to concertinas, try a new instrument with our team of Project Musicians on hand to help you find your new favourite instrument.
10.30am – 10pm: Session Area
10.30am – 3pm: Small Ships Building (family activity)
Build a small ship, make your own sailors hat and sing your own sea shanty! Drop in and join our team to explore the music and boats that sail out from the Tyne. Don’t forget to stick around to join the Small Ships Parade 3pm! This family friendly activity is suitable for young people aged 3 – 8.
3.50pm: Performance from Big Tunes Workshop
4pm – 5pm: Big Sing with the Wilsons
Come and sing with the incredible vocal powerhouse that is The Wilson Family. Open to anyone, of any age, this is your chance to join The Wilsons singing some of their best loved traditional songs. The Wilson Family were very honoured to be the latest recipients to have been awarded the EFDSS Gold Badge Award in October 2017. The glorious, powerful, vocal harmony of The Wilson Family of Billingham, Teesside has rung out in folk clubs and festivals continuously for the last 40+ years. The Brothers sing Traditional and traditionally-orientated songs, with deep understanding, joy and good humour.
7pm – 7.30pm: Holly and the Reivers
Holly & The Reivers are a band that blends old timey music and folk music together to give traditional songs a new kick! On fiddle and voice we have Merle Harbron who’s influences range from Gypsy Jazz to Scottish traditional music. on five string Banjo and voice we have Bertie Armstrong who is steeped in the old timey banjo and singing tradition aswell as ballads and songs from the UK and Holly Clarke on vocals and guitar being influenced by the many song traditions from around the UK, Ireland and America!
7.35pm – 7.45pm: Kingsmen Clog
Newcastle Kingsmen Clog formed six years ago to formalise a long tradition of clog dancers accompanying the Newcastle Kingsmen Sword Dancers. Since then, the team have grown in team members, repertoire and reputation appearing at numerous festivals and events including Sidmouth Folk Week, Utrecht Early Music Festival and Morpeth Northumbrian Gathering, where they won the group clog trophy in 2017.
