Carleen Anderson - Cage Street Memorial

Sage One

The seventh solo record from Mercury-nominated and Worldwide FM Lifetime Achievement Award winner Carleen Anderson is her best and bravest yet. This is a deeply and poetic take on belonging and exile that pulses with ideas and life.

Anderson’s CAGE STREET MEMORIAL ~ The Pilgrimage will be performed by Carleen on vocals, piano and vocal harmoniser, with accompaniment by an adventurous quartet led by Orphy Robinson on Vibraphone, Renell Shaw on Bass, Samy Bishai on Violin and Crispin Robinson on Percussion.

Her highly original compositions jostle and blends stylings of jazz, soul, gospel, opera and chamber music delivered in Anderson’s unique voice that plays with space and draws the ear to listen. Her numerous accolades are a testament to this most recent album showcasing an artist at the height of her creative powers to perform an unforgettable LIVE experience.

“You have to see Carleen Anderson at least three times in your life. I’d hang around all day just to listen to her sound check.” Amy Winehouse.

Launched by the 2016 EFG London Jazz Festival, this soundtrack album is one-third of a multi-genre narrative that traces the life of Anderson’s paternal Grandparents who raised her from infancy and their impact on her son’s current life in Bristol.

After being recruited by Virgin Records for a solo recording career, her first album in 1994, True Spirit, had three chart topping tracks, Mama Said, Let it Last and Nervous Breakdown. Her second album in 1998, Blessed Burden, co-produced with Paul Weller, also had several hits, one famously being a cover of Paul McCartney’s Maybe I’m Amazed.
