Featuring great bands from across Sage Gateshead’s Learning & Participation programme, including our BMus Jazz, Popular and Commercial Music programme and Young Musicians Programme, as well as other renowned ensembles from across the region. This afternoon of free music can be enjoyed by everyone.’

James Birkett directs young musicians currently studying at Sage Gateshead’s Centre for Advanced Training.

Finalists studying music at Newcastle University put their own spin on some classic jazz tunes.

Dean Stockdale Duo
A familiar face on the Northern jazz scene. His Influences are drawn from Oscar Peterson, Bill Evans, Kenny Barron and has studied with renowned jazz pianists Keith Tippet and David Newton.
4.30pm – 5pm
Belinda Voshtina and Ian Simpson
Guitar and vocal duo playing a mix of Latin, Jazz and Blues music with a sophisticated twist – providing a unique combination of soothing vocals and smooth guitar with musical performance coming straight from the soul.
5.30pm – 6pm
John Ellis Trio
Manchester’s much-admired musical polymath takes improvisatory twists and turns through township, soulful songs and local folk heritage. Presented with Jazz North.
6.30pm – 7.10pm
Jambone and Beats and Pieces
Sage Gateshead’s own youth jazz ensemble join with members of one of the UK’s favourite contemporary big bands, Beats and Pieces, to showcase some joint material developed earlier in 2015.
