Singing for Health

CoMusica are very pleased to have begun their second Youth Music funded partnership with Ferndene NHS in-patient centre, this time extending our delivery to both Alnwood, Medium Secure Children and Young People’s Inpatient Service and the RVI’s Great North Children’s Hospital.

Weekly singing and songwriting sessions will be taking place in each venue from September 2016 – December 2017, enabling children and young people with physical, complex mental health, behavioural and emotional needs including learning disabilities to gain the health benefits of regular group singing and build positive relationships with their peers through music making activities that encourage opportunities for mutual and peer support.

The musical provision will be supported by therapeutic art sessions led by staff from Northumberland Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust and Newcastle Bridges School.
